]]> Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS), together with the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy), will organize the Green Energy Management (GEM) Summer School on Energy Solutions for Sustainable Environment for post-graduate students.

The GEM Summer School will be held online from September 6 to 16, 2020.

Acceptance of applications from students wishing to participate in the Summer School has begun.Applications are to be submitted by 15 June at www.summerschoolbicocca.com/20-GEM.php.

The GEM Summer School 2020 will provide an overview of the conventional energy and green energy scenario and offer online classrooms and discussions on the basic principles of energy, recycling organic waste, biofuels, hydro production, wind and solar energy, recycling in agriculture, and financing for climate change.

All classes/lectures and group works will be held from 11:00 to 14:00 (Baku time) via remote learning platforms. By working remotely, students will learn how to adapt, acquire technical knowledge, and develop their collaboration skills.

BHOS successfully hosted GEM Summer School in 2019 and established reliable partnership with the University of Milano-Bicocca.GEM was launched in 2013 and is managed by a pool of scientists and professionals from a broad range of European Universities who have a wide experience in both conventional and renewable energy management and sustainable environment. GEM brings together students from all over the world (East & West Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America) to share experiences, create networking opportunities, and generate new regional project ideas and initiatives.

]]> The final supermoon of the year, rounding out a trio of spring supermoons that began in March, will occur during May's full moon. The big, bright moon will appear full-fledged on the morning of May 7 at 6:45 a.m. ET, according to NASA.

The full moon will be visible from the evening of May 6 until the morning of May 8.

This supermoon comes on the heels of the biggest and brightest supermoon of the year in April, but it's still more spectacular than a typical full moon.

Supermoons occur when the moon is within 90% of perigee - which is its closest approach to Earth in orbit. The moon will appear brighter and more prominent in the night sky, and hopefully, no clouds and inclement weather will obscure the view.

The supermoon will be visible to people around the world from dusk until dawn.

]]> Minister of Education JeyhunBayramov held a video conference with the participation of university rectors.

During the videoconference, its participants were informed about the implementation of the measures to minimize the threat of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, which are being carried out in accordance with the instructions of the country's leadership.
It was noted that in accordance with the recommendations and instructions that were given to higher education institutions, distance education has been conducted in these institutions since March of this year.

“To date, more than 95,000 students have joined Microsoft Teams and some other online platforms used for this purpose.Also, given the current situation in higher education institutions, an exchange of views took place on the organization of evaluationof the results of education of students in the second half of the academic year, and the Ministry made general recommendations in this regard”.

During the videoconference, suggestions and recommendations on topical issues were heard, and discussions were held.
Speaking at the conference, Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov proposed that this year,students with academic backlogs would be exempted from making payment for their study at summer schools, which are organized by higher education institutions on a paid basis, and that universities would cover the expenses associated with the training of these students at summerschools. Elmar Gasimov noted that his proposal should be considered as part of measures aimed at minimizing the risks associated with the training of students during the pandemic and supporting families of students affected by the global virus.
The conference participants hailed the rector’s proposal.

]]> Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) Elmar Gasimov held an online meeting with fifth-year students of BHOS.
The meeting, organized on the Microsoft Teams platform, was attended by over 100 students.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the educational process at Higher School and ways to jointly solve the problems facing students.
During the meeting, the rector answered students' questions regarding final exams, “Graduation Day”, internships, career opportunities and other important aspects.

The effectiveness of distance learning was also widely discussed with students.
Rector Elmar Gasimov said that distance education, which is being widely used for the first time in our country, has become a successful experience for teachers and students of Baku Higher Oil School.He noted that thanks to the use of modern communication methods, the negative impact of the global coronavirus pandemic on the education sector has been minimized.

Baku Higher Oil School has also managed to complete the educational process in a timely manner and to successfully organize online exams.
Students, in turn, noted the usefulness of a timely transition to the online education system.
At the end of the meeting, students asked questions and received answers to them.
The relevant departments were instructed to resolve the issues raised by students.

]]> Online exams have started at Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS).

The final exam was organized online for students who completed all lessons of the spring semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.
5th year students majoring in Petroleum Engineering and Process Automation Engineering were first to take part in the final exams. About 70 students took part in the "Fundamentals of Civil Defense and Medical Aid" exam.

During the 3-hour exam, students answered 25 questions. Exams were conducted through the LMS (Learning Management System).

The meeting was also attended by employees of the relevant departments of BHOS and Embassy Attaché for Cooperation between Universities and Scholarships Ms. Clemens Felipo. First, the guests were familiarized with the BHOS campus and the conditions created there. Elmar Gasimov gave the embassy representatives detailed information about Baku Higher Oil School.

The rector emphasized that cooperation between Azerbaijan and France in the energy, political, economic, socio-cultural, scientific and educational spheres is growing day by day. He also noted that in 2013, BHOS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP), which indicates the development of relations between France and Azerbaijan.

The rector also spoke about Baku Higher Oil School’s close cooperation with a number of French companies, including Total. Ambassador Zacharie Gross, in turn, thanked Rector Elmar Gasimov for the warm welcome. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation between Baku Higher Oil School, which trains specialists in the areas that are important for the region, and the universities in France.

Speaking about the importance of expanding ties between the two countries in the field of education, the ambassador emphasized that issues related to the provision of quality education and training of foreign students in higher education institutions in France are one of the priorities not only for the embassy, but also for his country. The meeting was attended by BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov; the head of the delegation, HMC Vice-President Pak Gabzhu; the professors of the Electronic Engineering Department of Kungsung University, Pak Changsik and Dong Hee Lee; the responsible employees of BHOS.
The meeting participants discussed the results obtained upon completion of the research project for the development of aCCTV-based primary gas detection & access monitoring system, jointly implemented by HMC, KyungsungUniversity and the Process Automation Engineering Department of BHOS with grant support from the Republic of Korea.

The aim of the project is to create a system capable of detecting even the smallest gas leaks with the help of the latest-generation surveillance cameras. The system will help companies to save their money by preventing gas losses.
This system was tested at the compressor stations of SOCAR’s Gas Export Department. A 3D model of the station was integrated into the center located at Baku Higher Oil School.

Welcoming the guests, Elmar Gasimovsaid that he was glad to see representatives of the company HMC and KyungsungUniversity again at Baku Higher Oil School.The rector noted that within the framework of the project, a center equipped with equipment from HMC has been operating on the BHOS campus for more than a year.

“This center works on the basis of joint research projects of Kyungsung University and Baku Higher Oil School.I think that the project has beensuccessfully completed, and we are interested in the implementation of the next phase,” the rector said.
HMC Vice-President Pak Gabzhunoted that thanks to the cooperation with BHOS, this system was successfully tested in Azerbaijan and that at the next stage of the project, end products will be launched to the market.

“The equipment has been successfully tested in Korea.This equipment was installed at the Electricity Department of Korea and Seoul Metro, as a result of which an efficient infrastructure was created.Currently, we are working on the provision of infrastructure services,” Pak Gabzhu said, adding that HMC wants to open its branch in Azerbaijan.

The company HMC, founded in 1997, specializes in 4.0 industrial systems and artificial intelligence.
Note that a Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between BHOS and HMC.The document was signed by Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimovand President of the company HMC Park Hack Joo.
