At the event organized at the Ataturk Center, a moment of silence was observed in memory of the fallen heroes who fought for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

A new Board of the Azerbaijan Alpagut Federation (AAF) was formed at the congress, and elections for the federation’s president were held. According to the voting results, in which all branch and club leaders, coaches, referees, and athletes aged 18 and over participated, the Board members elected were Rafik Gasimov, Kenan Guliyev, Kabil Guseynov, Elsever Puri, Jafar Jafarov, Emil Rahimov, Vasif Namazov, and Fuad Guliyev. Nizami Agayev was elected Chairman of the Board, and Ali Gadzhiev became the Chairman of the Control and Audit Commission. Furthermore, based on the results of the General Assembly’s vote, Fuad Guliyev was unanimously elected as the new president of AAF.

In his speech, he stated that he would do everything possible to accelerate the development of Alpagut-Turan as a martial art.

Guests at the congress included: Vice President of the World Alpagut Federation Tural Abbasguliyev, Head of Advertising and Marketing Firuze Iskenderova, Board Member Farid Aliyev, and President of WFA, Deputy Milyat Dzhalahmedova.

The President of WFA, Dzhalahmedova, highlighted the conditions created for sports in our country and the special attention of President Ilham Aliyev to sports, expressing wishes for success to the new leadership of the Azerbaijan Alpagut Federation.

It is worth noting that the World Alpagut Federation is an international organization founded in 2014 with the aim of developing the national sport of Alpagut. The federation has official representations, clubs, and federations in 57 countries, including Azerbaijan. It is a member of well-known international sports associations such as IMGC, Fair-Play, ICSSPE, ISNO, GAWSF, and TAFISA. ]]> Baku City Circuit (BCC) has today regretfully taken the decision to cancel the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2020.

This conclusion was reached as a direct result of the continuing uncertainty caused by the global coronavirus pandemic and comes after extensive discussions with the Government of the Azerbaijan Republic as well as Formula One World Championship Ltd and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Following the initial postponement of this year’s race in March, we have explored every opportunity to find a way to stage the race weekend in 2020 in a safe and responsible manner  and in such a way that would prioritise the health of all involved while still putting on a great show for fans across the world. However, it has now become clear that this is no longer feasible within the current timeframe.

The ongoing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic means that the construction of our street circuit cannot be guaranteed to be carried out safely and on time. In addition, the various containment measures stillbeing implemented by governments across the world - and the impact these are having on cross-border travel - further reduce the chances of realistically staging a race weekend in Baku later this year. This has, therefore, left us with no choice but to cancel the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2020.

In coming to this conclusion, BCC’s primary concern throughout has been the health and well-being of the Azerbaijani people as well as all visiting F1 fans, staff and championship participants.

BCC shares its fans disappointment at not being able to experience the pinnacle of motorsport race through the streets of Baku in 2020 season.

Alternatively, any tickets purchased will be automatically valid for the Formula 1 Azerbaijani Grand Prix 2021.

]]> A new calendar of Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix has been announced, Apa sport reports citing foreign media.

The race, which was suspended and cancelled due to a coronavirus pandemic, is planned to start in early July.

First, the Austrian Grand Prix will be held on July 5 and 12.

Azerbaijani stage of the competition will be held on September 20. Initially, only Formula 2 was scheduled to be held in Baku on that date, but the organizers already plan to hold Formula 1 in Azerbaijan at that time.

]]> If the race doesn't take place in Baku, it will be a considerable financial loss for 'Formula 1', Executive Director of Baku City Circuit Operations Company (BCC) Arif Rahimov told Motorsport publication.

"This is beyond our control. It is a force majeure not only nationwide, but globally as well," he added.

According to the Executive Director, the contract with 'Formula 1' specifies such cases, and there is no need for an extra payment. "If the racing will not take place, the government will face no financial loss. The cancellation will be due to the circumstances beyond our control. It is even illegal to promote the competitions in the current situation," Rahimov stressed.

Earlier, 'Formula 1' administration canceled two Grand Prix competitions, while it postponed five races. Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2020 had been scheduled for June 5-7.

The International Olympic Committee on Tuesday agreed to postpone the Games to 2021 but left the new date in question.

The IOC will convene an emergency meeting of its decision-making executive board on Sunday to discuss the decision.

The decision to pick an almost identical date to this year’s event is not particularly surprising, given the challenges to squeeze the Olympics in an already packed sporting calendar. It also is the best time for the U.S. broadcaster, NBC Universal, which pays more than $1 billion for the U.S. media rights to each Olympic Games.

The 2020 Summer Games had been scheduled for July 24 – August 9.

Reporting that he is in the hospital, Terim, 66, wrote on Twitter: "Don't worry. See you in the shortest time..."

Istanbul powerhouse Galatasaray, which Terim is currently coaching for the fourth time, posted a supportive message on social media, saying they believe he can beat the disease.

Earlier Monday Galatasaray confirmed that its Vice Chairman Abdurrahim Albayrak, 65, also tested positive, along with his wife Sukran Albayrak, and that they are both doing well in treatment.

In addition to coaching clubs in Italy and Turkey, Terim has also managed the Turkish National Football Team, with his latest stint wrapping up in 2017.

After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, the virus has spread to at least 168 countries and regions around the globe, with over 360,000 cases worldwide, and over 15,000 deaths, according to data compiled by U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 30 people have died of the virus in Turkey, with 1,236 cases confirmed.
